On March 16th, a big shipment of dried yeast from Brazil arrived at Visakhapatnam port. There were suspicions that drugs might be hidden in the yeast. So, a team from the CBI in Delhi, acting on Interpol’s tip-off, started looking into it on March 19th and 20th.
They took samples of the dried yeast in front of a judge and sent them to a lab to check for drugs. The initial findings confirmed that there were indeed illegal drugs hidden in the yeast. This caused a big stir across the country.
The company that brought in the yeast, Sandhya Aqua Exports, was accused, along with some others who were not named. The CBI said they were waiting for reports from three labs, which they expected in about three weeks. But it’s been over two months now, and there hasn’t been any progress in the case, which has made a lot of people wonder why.
Some CBI teams even went to Brazil to investigate further. Meanwhile, another team checked out some industries in Mulapeta and Vajrakut in Kakinada District related to Sandhya Exports. During this time, a company bus carrying important documents broke down, and the local police handed the documents back to the company instead of giving them to the CBI, which raised suspicions.
The CBI also wanted to move the container to a safer place, but it’s still sitting at the Visakhapatnam Container Terminal Private Limited (VCTPL) examination point.
