Andhra Pradesh is wrapping up its big elections tomorrow, and the vote counting starts at 8 AM. On one side, we’ve got Jagan’s YCP, and on the other, there’s the TDP, BJP, and JSP alliance. But what’s the outlook for these groups, and how are different castes voting?
Historically, the Kamma and Kapu communities have usually kept their distance from each other. They’ve often been on opposite sides in elections, even in the entertainment world of Tollywood, where fans of Nandamuri and Mega Heroes sometimes split along caste lines.
In 2019, Kapu votes heavily favored the YCP over the TDP, helping YCP win big. But in 2024, things have changed dramatically. There’s been a surprising coming together of Kamma and Kapu communities.
According to political experts, both communities are supporting their leaders, Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan, respectively. The alliance between TDP and JSP seems to have brought them together.
Reports suggest that both Kamma and Kapu voters are backing the alliance strongly, with votes transferring smoothly between them. This positive support, combined with anti-incumbency feelings, might work in the alliance’s favor, ensuring no anti-YCP votes go to waste.
Exit polls are already showing strong support for the alliance, and tomorrow, when the votes are counted, we’ll see if this collaboration’s magic pays off. Observers on the ground expect the results to reflect this new unity between Kamma and Kapu communities.
