Singapore Airlines wants to pay passengers who got hurt last month when their flight had really bad shaking. They’re offering $10,000 to those with minor injuries and discussing compensation for those who got hurt worse. If passengers had serious injuries and need long-term care, they’re giving them $25,000 right away to help. This is part of their final compensation. Also, everyone on the flight will get their ticket money back.
The plane, a Boeing 777-300ER, was flying for about 10 hours from London to Singapore when it hit turbulence over Myanmar. Unfortunately, a British man, 73-year-old Geoff Kitchen, passed away due to a suspected heart condition. The plane had to land in Bangkok after the incident.
Inside the plane, there were big holes in the ceiling panels, and the oxygen masks and panels were hanging down. Luggage was everywhere. One passenger mentioned that some people hit their heads on the lights above the seats and broke the panels.
By late Thursday, May 23, 46 passengers and two crew members were taken to the hospital in Bangkok. Another 19 were still there, according to the airline.
Out of the 46 hospitalized passengers, twenty were in intensive care at Bangkok’s Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital. Doctors said they had different injuries to their spines, brains, and skulls.
Singapore Airlines is known as one of the best airlines globally and hasn’t had any big accidents in recent times.
