Artist Accuses Kalki 2898 AD Trailer of Plagiarism
Concept artist Sung Choi, who’s worked with big names like Marvel Studios and Disney, has called out the makers of Prabhas’ upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD for allegedly using his artwork without permission in the film’s trailer.
Choi posted a comparison of his original illustration, titled “Crash Site of ARK,” and a scene from the trailer on social media. He expressed disappointment about the unauthorized use of his work, highlighting the challenges of creating art in an environment where intellectual property rights are not respected.
The controversy gained traction as fans noticed the similarities between Choi’s artwork and the trailer’s visuals. Some even criticized the trailer for borrowing heavily from other movies and series like Mad Max, Dune, and Halo.
Choi’s post received support from fans and fellow artists, who encouraged him to take legal action against the makers of Kalki 2898 AD. Many expressed frustration over the lack of originality in the film’s visuals on platforms like Twitter and Reddit.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD boasts a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. The movie is slated for release on June 27, 2024.
