The Anna Canteen program, started by the previous Telugu Desam alliance government between 2014-19, was a big hit. It aimed to provide high-quality food to those in need at a very low price of Rs 5. However, when the YSR Congress government came to power, they stopped this program.
Now, with the Telugu Desam-led government back in power, they’ve restarted the famous Anna Canteen scheme. The first Anna Canteen has reopened in Hindupur, and there’s a special reason for it.
Recently, on Nanamuri Balakrishna’s birthday, the Anna Canteen in his own constituency of Hindupur was reopened for the public. It started serving food today at the same low price of Rs 5. Many more such canteens will be opened in Andhra Pradesh in the coming months.
Anna Canteens were a big help to the less privileged in Andhra Pradesh, and people were upset when the YCP government stopped them. It’s good to see that the Telugu Desam party wasted no time in bringing back the Anna Canteen program.
