The 72nd meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) in New Delhi focused on evaluating three major infrastructure projects. These projects were from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Ministry of Railways (MoR), and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
Under the Ministry of Railways, one project in Andhra Pradesh was reviewed. The Gudur-Renigunta third rail line in Tirupati spans 83.17 km and aims to increase the capacity of the existing double line. The project is estimated to cost Rs 884 crore and will enhance efficiency for both passenger and cargo transport. It requires 36.58 hectares of land.
The project’s infrastructure upgrades include new bridges, extended underpasses, and advanced signaling systems, which will boost economic activity in the region.
With TDP now in power in Andhra Pradesh, there is optimism that land acquisition and other necessary resources will be expedited to start the project promptly.
The other two projects discussed were the National Highway project in Jammu and Kashmir by MoRTH, and the Pune Metro Line Extension in Maharashtra under MoHUA.
All three projects are crucial for national development, integrating various transportation modes and contributing to the progress of their respective regions.
