The NDA has started off by winning the Surat seat. BJP’s Mukesh Dalal won without competition because the Election Commission rejected the nomination of Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani due to problems with his supporters’ signatures. Eight other candidates withdrew, clearing the path for Dalal’s victory.
