Yesterday, a billboard collapsed in Mumbai because of a dust storm. Sadly, this incident caused the death of 14 people and injured over 74 others. The police have filed a case against a man named Bhavesh Bhinde for causing the collapse, accusing him of a serious offense called culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Bhavesh Bhinde has been doing various contracts for the Indian Railways and the Mumbai civic body to put up hoardings and banners for many years. However, he has broken the rules many times.
The hoarding that fell on the fuel station in Ghatkopar was huge, measuring 120×120 feet. But according to the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), billboards larger than 40×40 feet are not allowed. Bhavesh Bhinde’s agency claims they got permission from the Assistant Commissioner of Police, though.
Shockingly, Bhavesh Bhinde has more than 20 cases against him, including one for rape!
Bhinde is currently missing, and his phone is turned off. Besides owning an advertising agency, he also ran as an independent candidate from the Mulund constituency in 2009. He has 23 cases against him under the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and the Negotiable Instruments Act.
In January of this year, a rape case was filed against Bhinde at the Mulund Police Station.
