Sharmila Lost the Battle, but Did She Win Against Jagan?

There’s a saying that winning the overall war matters more than winning a single battle. AP Congress President YS Sharmila seems to have embraced this idea fully. She may have lost in the Kadapa Lok Sabha segment, but her efforts contributed to the larger goal of opposing Jagan’s rule.

When asked about her loss in Kadapa, Sharmila took it lightly, mentioning she didn’t have enough time to devise a winning strategy there. She appeared more content that her brother Jagan had been removed from power.

Sharmila criticized the YSR Congress as a transient force, suggesting it would eventually align with Congress again. She highlighted that Jagan had been decisively rejected by Andhra Pradesh voters, describing it as a strong anti-Jagan sentiment prevailing across the state.

It’s possible Sharmila’s campaign had an impact in Kadapa, where YSR Congress, previously winning all 10 MLA seats, now secured only 3 out of 10. This unexpected result dealt a blow to YCP’s expectations. While the opposition coalition’s widespread support was a major factor, Sharmila’s role shouldn’t be underestimated.

Sharmila’s criticism of Jagan created a perception that if he couldn’t meet his family’s expectations, how could he serve the people of AP? The unresolved murder of Vivekananda Reddy may also have influenced public opinion. Overall, Sharmila appears satisfied with the impact she made against Jagan.
